They did it. Serena and Venus Williams will meet in their seventh Grand Slam final, the first in five years on championship weekend at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The two best grass court players of this generation.
Venus has won Wimbledon four times and been to six finals. This will be her seventh. The only player she's lost to in finals is her little sister in 2002 and 2003.
Serena has won the Venus Rosewater Dish twice and been to three finals. This will be her fourth. She lost the final to Maria Sharapova in 2004.
These two greats had to stave off two gutsy opponents in today's battles. Serena ended the dreams of Chinese wild card and unlikely semifinalist Zheng Jie who gave Serena all she could handle in the second set. Venus dismissed first-time Wimbledon semifinalist Elena Dementieva from Russia, who also put up a strong challenge in the second set.
The sisters bounced up and down like little girls when they clinched their respective victories.
Here's to a sister Slam.

I am so getting my strawberries and cream (lactose intolerance notwithstanding). You go girls. Somehow I think that this match will be uber competitive with Venus coming out the victor.
Hi karen. Long time, no hear! Looks like Venus wants it. But I think Serena will prevail. IAC, it will be a fun final. Despite them giggling and jumping like little girls, they're both adult women, each wanting that title. It'll be a better match than some of their others, imo.
I think the match is on Serena's racquet. Not saying Venus won't be victorious, but if they each play the way they've played throughout, a big if, of course, then the match is on Serena's racquet.
I'm hoping for Venus to win but I just think that Serena has shown she has the mental edge against Venus (5-1 in finals, 2-0 on grass, and 8-7 head-to-head overall).
I think it comes down to who wants it more, which I think is always Serena.
Oddman, I have been around. Not posting a lot. Too tired to defend Fed these days (he has been acting like a real idiot). Sort of worried for him in this semis with Safin as Safin will be playing like a man with nothing to lose. Hopefully reverse psychology will work and he will realise who is standing across the net from him "The Federer". But I digress, the Sisters. What a story. They have basically saved the women's final with their play. Hurrying to get home to watch the matches on tv later this evening. Whoo Hoo. Cannot wait. And the discussions on match fixing have started again. Venus really did shut that fellow up boy. She has so matured it is beyond belief. Well spoken, composed - just a joy to be a fan of hers. Go Queen Vee. Title No. 5.
Great job by both sisters! I think Serena will take it, but who knows. It has been a long time since they have played each other in a final.
On a side note, I cannot imagine how exhilarating and at the same time gut wrenching it is for Richard and Oracene Williams when their daughters play each other.
Also, did any of you read the post by Bodo yesterday about the sister's place in the WTA. I really liked it.
Good luck to both gals.
Congratulations to them both. My heart wants Serena to prevail, but I'd be happy for Venus as well. They've both played really well, and it's been a pleasure to watch them the last two weeks. Saturday is the day .. may it be memorable.
karen, what do you mean? Are you meaning his mention about Court 2, or is there something else? Please, gossips want to know, lol.
I think Serena is the better player. I've always thought that, even when Venus was winning everything and Serena was winning nothing. But Serena has been struggling to play consistently and close out big matches all year (see Miami and Charleston and Bangalore) so if Venus is more steady, she'll win.
I just want a great match like the one they played in 2002.
I'm so happy for Venus and Serena. After they won, their qrtrfinal matches, I cried. lol! Those are my girls!!! I want Vee to win, but Serena has always been the better all-court player to me. And, I also saw Bodo's column on the ESPN site and he wrote another column on the tennis.com site that was positive about Venus and Serena. I was/am shocked because, to me, he has never been pro either sister or the family.
